NHL Announces Vezina Trophy Finalists

The National Hockey League has announced the finalists for the 2024 Vezina Trophy. The Vancouver Canucks‘ Thatcher Demko, the Florida Panthers‘ Sergei Bobrovsky, and Connor Hellebuyck of the Winnipeg Jets were nominated as the three finalists.

2023 Vezina Trophy Winner

The Vezina Trophy is awarded annually to the goaltender who is considered to be the best at his position.

Bobrovsky won the award twice in 2013 and 2017 during his run with the Columbus Blue Jackets. The 35-year-old has posted a win-loss record of 36 wins, 17 losses and four overtime losses across 58 games played this season. He also recorded a goals-against average of 2.37 and a save percentage of 0.915 throughout the 2023-24 season. If Bobrovsky wins the award, he will become the second Florida Panthers goaltender to win the award behind Roberto Luongo.

Demko is a first-time nominee and looking to become the first Vancouver Canuck goaltender to win the award. The 28-year-old posted a win-loss record of 35 wins, 14 losses, and two overtime losses. He also recorded a goals-against average of 2.45 and a 0.918 save percentage.

Hellebuyck, who secured an eight-year contract extension back earlier in the 2023-24 season, is a Vezina finalist for the fourth time in his 10-year NHL career and for the second consecutive season. The 30-year-old won the Vezina back in 2020 and has been in Vezina conversation since. Hellebuyck’s 2023-24 stat line saw him post a win-loss record of 37 wins, 19 losses and four overtime losses. He also recorded a 2.39 goals-against average and a 0.921 save percentage.

The finalists of the Vezina trophy are determined by a vote from the NHL’s general managers. The Calder trophy, given to the league’s top rookie, will have its three finalists announced on Tuesday, April 30th.
