Predators Prospect Report: AHL Player of the Week, World Juniors Final Stats, and NCAA Standout

While the Nashville Predators are battling to stay in the playoff race, several prospects have been elevating their game with their hockey opportunities.

Yaroslav Askarov

Today the AHL named goaltender Yaroslav Askarov the AHL Player of the Week after Askarov had back to back shutouts against the Colorado Eagles.

Askarov made 54 saves in the 1-0 and 5-0 wins on January 5 and 6 at UW-Milwaukee Arena. The two shutouts were Askarov's first games back in goal after winning his first NHL game December 30 against the Washington Capitals in a 4-3 shootout win.

The 21-year-old has played 17 games in Milwaukee and has a .920 save percentage and 2.14 goals against average.

World Juniors Stats

The World Juniors wrapped up this past week in Sweden with Team USA winning gold, and two Predators prospects finished the 2024 World Juniors experience as well.

Forward Matthew Wood represented Team Canada who was eliminated in a quarterfinal loss to Czechia. In five games, Wood scored two goals and recorded two assists for Canada. Wood was the Predators' first pick in the 2023 NHL Draft and will return to the University of Connecticut hockey team where he has scored seven goals and 12 points in 18 games so far this season.

Predators defensive prospect Kasper Kulonummi and Team Finland lost in the Bronze Medal match to Team Czechia. Finland entered the Bronze Medal game having won five of their seven games.

Kulonummi finished the tournament with four assists and a -1. He was a 2022 third round pick for the Predators and will return to Finland to play with Tappara.

Aiden Fink

Penn State freshman and Nashville 7th round pick Aiden Fink continues his strong season for the Nittany Lions, helping the team in the biggest comeback win in program history this weekend against Army. Fink got PSU on the scoreboard first, but the Nittany Lions found themselves down 6-2 in the second period. After battling back to a 6-6 tie, Fink scored the game winner at 10:02 in the third period.

As a freshman, Fink leads Penn State in points and is tied for first on the team in goals.
