Wings star Arike Ogunbowale out past first round of playoffs?

The Dallas Wings will be without All-Star guard Arike Ogunbowale for the rest of the WNBA regular season and the first round of the playoffs. Now, there are questions as to how long she could be out after that.

The Wings announced Tuesday that Ogunbowale underwent surgery in Philadelphia to repair an iliac crest core muscle avulsion, which impacted her abdominal and hip region.

What makes the timeline for Ogunbowale's return hard to determine is that her injury is rare. Since there aren't as many cases to go off of, it isn't readily clear how quickly she will be able to get back on the court if Dallas advances past the first round of the playoffs.

Ogunbowale sustained the injury on Aug. 6 in the fourth quarter of the team's overtime win over the Indiana Fever. She collided with a Fever guard going for a rebound before tumbling over in pain and heading for the bench. She had to be helped off of the court.

The Wings clinched a spot in the 2022 playoffs on Aug, 8 with a win over the New York Liberty, their fifth straight victory.
